Position Summary
The Minister of Music provides spiritual, musical, and administrative leadership for the worship life of Grace Baptist Church. Serving in close partnership with the Senior Pastor, this role cultivates worship that is Christ-centered, culturally rooted, theologically sound, and community shaping—honoring the Black church tradition while embracing relevant and contemporary expressions of praise.

The Minister of Music understands music as ministry first and performance second, using worship as a tool for spiritual formation, unity, and evangelism.

Primary Responsibilities
Worship Leadership & Planning
·         Plan and lead music for all worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.

·         Select music aligned with sermon themes, liturgical seasons, and spiritual direction.

·         Ensure worship is participatory, Spirit-led, and pastorally sensitive.

·         Lead congregational singing that bridges generations and styles.

Choirs & Music Ministry Development
·         Recruit, train, and spiritually nurture choir members and praise teams.

·         Oversee all music ensembles including adult choirs, praise teams, and youth.

·         Conduct rehearsals emphasizing excellence, discipline, and spiritual formation.

·         Mentor emerging musicians and vocalists.

Musical Direction & Excellence
·         Direct choirs and praise teams during worship and special services.

·         Collaborate with musicians to maintain musical quality and unity.

·         Arrange or adapt music appropriate to the church’s context.

Pastoral & Spiritual Leadership
·         Model Christian character and servant leadership.

·         Provide pastoral care and encouragement to the music ministry.

·         Pray regularly with and for the music ministry.

·         Uphold music as ministry before performance.

Administrative & Collaborative Duties
·         Manage the music ministry calendar.

·         Assist with budgeting for music and equipment.

·         Collaborate with media, sound, and worship teams.

·         Participate in staff meetings and church initiatives.

Special Services & Community Engagement
·         Plan music for revivals, funerals, weddings, and holidays.

·         Support outreach and community events through music.

·         Help shape the church’s musical identity for evangelism.

Qualifications
·         Clear and growing Christian faith with a call to worship ministry.

·         Experience in a Black church or culturally rooted worship setting.

·         Strong musical ability (vocal and/or instrumental).

·         Ability to read music and direct ensembles.

·         Strong organizational skills and emotional intelligence.

·         Formal musical training preferred.

Accountability & Reporting
Reports directly to the Senior Pastor. Works collaboratively with church staff and ministry leaders. Serves under the governance and policies of Grace Baptist Church
