Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church is a historic, Christ-centered congregation located at 212 South Street in Belmont, North Carolina, with a legacy of faith and service dating back to November 1883. For generations, Mt. Senior Pastor Position Summary

A Calling to Lead, Shepherd, and Serve

Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Belmont, North Carolina, is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor to serve as our spiritual shepherd, primary visionary leader, and trusted servant of God’s people. This is a full-time pastoral position for a leader who is deeply committed to the Word of God, passionate about people, and equipped to lead with wisdom, humility, and grace.

We are seeking a pastor who will faithfully proclaim God’s Word, nurture the spiritual life of the congregation, and help guide Mt Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, into the next chapter of its ministry and mission.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Faithful adherence to Scripture
A strong commitment to biblical, expository preaching and teaching
A genuine love for God and His people
Spiritual maturity and pastoral compassion
Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership abilities
A collaborative spirit and a heart for building unity

Biblical Qualifications

The Senior Pastor should embody the biblical standards for pastoral leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:2–4. We are looking for a pastor whose life reflects integrity, humility, doctrinal faithfulness, courage rooted in godliness, and a sincere commitment to shepherding the flock of God. Above all, the Senior Pastor should lead not simply from a position of authority, but from a posture of service and love.

Education & Ministry Preparation

Licensed and ordained, with a strong understanding of Baptist polity and church governance
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Religion, Biblical Studies, or a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Preferred: Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or Doctor from an accredited seminary or theological institution
Demonstrated commitment to continued theological education, spiritual growth, and leadership development

Ministry Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of three – five (3-5) years of consistent ministry experience serving as a Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Assistant Pastor, or Executive Pastor.

Effective team building and staff leadership
Development of meaningful spiritual formation and discipleship ministries
Mentorship and leadership development
Successful implementation of congregational vision
Ability to lead and serve within a church community with demographics and ministry

Core Responsibilities

Preaching & Teaching

The Senior Pastor will:

Preach the majority of Sunday morning services with Spirit-led, biblically sound, expository preaching
Clearly communicate the truth of Scripture in ways that encourage spiritual growth and practical Christian living
Preach and provide pastoral leadership during Christmas, Easter, Watch Night, and other significant services and occasions
Help ensure doctrinal integrity and biblical consistency throughout the church’s teaching ministries
Equip others to faithfully communicate and teach God’s Word
Pastoral Care

The Senior Pastor will:

Provide pastoral counseling, prayer, encouragement, and spiritual guidance
Be present and accessible to the congregation during significant seasons of joy, grief, transition, and crisis
Conduct weddings, funerals, and other pastoral services
Oversee and preside over the ordinances of Baptism and Communion, or appropriately delegate these responsibilities
Respond thoughtfully and promptly to congregational crises in collaboration with church leadership
Recognize when professional care is needed and make appropriate referrals
Leadership & Administration

The Senior Pastor will:

Provide strategic and spiritual leadership for the church’s mission, vision, and future direction
Work collaboratively with Department Heads, Ministerial Staff, and the Deacon and Deaconess Boards
Lead long-term planning and help align ministries with the church’s mission and vision
Cultivate an atmosphere of unity, trust, respect, and cooperation
Foster meaningful relationships across generations, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Strengthen Mt Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church’s presence and impact within the broader community
Encourage members to discover, develop, and use their God-given gifts in service to Christ and others
